I consider myself a pretty crafty and resoureful person who loves Do It Yourself projects and I came across a recipe for a DIY Lotion that gave you the option to make an aromatherapy blend. So I pinned it to come back to later.
One day, I was really stressed out and having a hard time sleeping and after getting a shower and applying my Bath & Body Works Sleep Aromatherapy shower gel and lotion, I was thinking about all the money I've spent on that particular brand. I didn't get an exact figure but lets just say it was A LOT of money. So I began thinking about that DIY Lotion recipe that I had pinned on Pinterest and how I could make my own "Sleep" aromatherapy lotion using the recipe for the lotion and an essential oil blend for the aromatherapy AND saving money!
I went back, saved the recipe on my phone and went to Walmart to get my supplies.
The recipe is simple.
You need the following:
- 4 oz. Fruit of the Earth Vitamin E Lotion
-Jars to put lotion in
- 27 oz. Lavender Baby Lotion or Plain
-13 oz. Vaseline
Yes, you read that right. That is really ALL that you need!
To start, gather all your ingredients and get a mixing bowl, hand held blender and spatula.
First empty one whole 4 oz. jar of the Vitamin E Lotion into the mixing bowl and add 16 oz of the baby lotion and blend together. Then add the vaseline to acheive thickness. I used 6 oz. It really is up to personal preference. I would recommend the consistency to be like cool whip. Light and frothy. With too much vaseline and the combined Vitamin E Lotion it can make it really oily so less is better and it won't be oily. Once you have the lotion to your consistency add an essential oil blend of your choosing. I made mine to mimmick Bath & Body Works Sleep aromatherapy blend so I used 14 drops of Lavender Essential Oil. Once you add your essential oil, blend on a medium speed for 2-3 minutes to make sure it has mixed well with your lotion base and then you have acheived your very own DIY Aromatherapy Lotion! Easy Peasy!
This batch made me about a dozen jelly jars worth of lotion that I gave to friends and family as gifts.
It only costs approximately $2 to make a jar of this so if you compare that to the $6 aromatherapy Bath & Body Works shower gel you are saving money and who doesn't like saving money!?
If you decide to give this to friends and family as gifts like I did, be sure to tell them to save their jars because they are going to LOVE it and want some more, GUARANTEED!
Just remember when making this to have fun!
